ABOUT: Sandy Bend Vineyard, Alluvial Soils 1,200ft above sea level in Upper Lake, Lake County CA. Planted in 1996, certified Sustainable in 2013. Managed by Chris Schlies, a long-time lawyer and activist and Chris Christensen’s friend.
VINIFICATION: Fermented and aged in a concrete egg, then 7.5 months on its fine lees. Bottled without fining or filtration.
TASTING NOTES: Light bodied, dry Natural White wine. Hazy Straw color. This wine opens with Perfumed aromas of Orange Blossom, Honeysuckle, & Citrus Fruits. The bright palate has a lovely texture from time spent aging in a Concrete Egg ("Eyren" translates to "Egg" in Middle-English), w/ notes of Lemon, & hints of Tangerine, Honey & Bread. hit of Minerals. Medium finish.
Winemaker’s note: “This concrete–egg fermented Muscat Canelli really cranks the palate volume to 11 since 10 isn’t voluminous enough. An absolute unit... – texture for days, weeks, months, years, really. Sticking to the tradition of Bodkin Muscat Canelli, it’s RS dry so no need to call it sweet!”
FOOD PAIRING: Fish, Pork Dishes, Roast Poultry, Risotto, Spicy Food, Cheese, Savory Desserts, Olive Oil Cake, Cheese Cake, etc.
