HISTORY: The Laurent family has established a near-legendary reputation for the wines of Château L’Escart, located in the center of the village of Saint-Loubès. Their vineyard encompasses a single 37 ha block on the fine gravel and clay-limestone soils near the Dordogne River. The Laurent’s passionate respect for their terroir is reflected in their commitment to biodynamic viticulture, a philosophy that extends to the cellar as well, with only wild yeast used in fermentation. The resulting wines of Château L’Escart are sought after for their deft balance of depth and freshness.

ABOUT: Le Bergey is the entry level label of Château L’Escart, a Bordeaux Supérieur winery run by  the Laurent family which live on the property.  The estate is organically farmed and managed for quality throughout every step necessary to make a fine bottle of wine.  You’ve got to try this if you are a Bordeaux fan. Consistently outstanding, this is yet another strong showing from one of our most accessible properties. Using only vines that are a minimum 15 years of age adds a measure of concentration usually found only in wines costing considerably more.

VINIFICATION: Organic & Biodynamic grown grapes from a single vineyard. Fermented spontaneously with Wild Yeast, after which the wine spends 6 months aging in French Oak casks before being bottled.

TASTING NOTES: Light-Med. bodied, dry Red wine. Deep Ruby w/ Purple reflexes. Dark, intense fruit; Cooked Cherry, Licorice, Blackcurrant, & hints of Baking Chocolate. Intense and concentrated on palate, w/ Ripe Cherry, Licorice & Blackberry followed by dry tannins, and tightly wound fruit on the Med. finish.
