100% Aglianico from Beneventano, Campania, Southern Italy. Certified Organic, Low Intervention, Low Sulfites, Suitable for Vegans.
HISTORY: The Cotroneo family began acquiring vineyards in Campania at the start of the twentieth century, in the districts of Ciurica, Rivolta and Roseto. In 1997 Paolo and Gabriella and their cousin Giancarlo became the third Cotroneo generation to work the land, and they immediately set out to make the estate organic. The following year they began to replant 80% of the vines. Their first organic certified vintage was 2001. The estate’s 31 hectares are planted on hillsides, mainly limestone and clay, at between 250 and 550 m.a.s.l., all south/south-east facing, in the shadow of Mount Taburno.
ABOUT: Fattoria La Rivolta farms its vineyards organically. The estate also utilizes sheep and beneficial birds to control weeds and pests. They actively engage cover crops and precision irrigation to reduce water usage, and are constantly adapting to better preserve the local ecosystem.
VINIFICATION: Hand-Harvested from Vines grown in Calcareous soils. Fermentation occurs in Stainless Steel Tanks at a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. Using local selected yeasts, the fermentation process lasts 20-25 days. Lightly filtered, w/ a small amount (50ml) of Sulfites added at bottling. Aged in bottle for 6-8 months before being released to market.
Young Aglianico wines are known for strikingly savoury flavour of leather, white pepper, black fruits and cured meat that when aged, develop soft dusty aromas of dried figs and sun-tanned leather. Rustic, earth-driven, black fruit flavoured wines with savoury hints of leather and spice.
