HISTORY: The Lange twins’ great-grandparents set down agriculture roots in Lodi in the 1870s and began a family farm growing non-irrigated watermelons. The farm grew year over year and by 1916 the family purchased their first vineyard. It was on this farm that the twins’ dad gained experience to carry on the family’s agricultural roots. The twins’ dad expanded their farm to include the River Ranch and the DeVries Road Ranch, where the twins grew up helping work the farm while exploring the surrounding land. After returning from college, the twins purchased a small vineyard from their dad and began their farming partnership. It was here, the River Ranch, where they had countless childhood adventures, where they built their lives as neighbors, raised their families, and reignited their love for the land.

WINEMAKERS:

David Akiyoshi – A second-generation winemaker, David is a 35-year industry veteran who graduated from the University of California, Davis. As Director of Winemaking at Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi, he led a team of enologists in creating and evolving their wine style to improve the quality of Woodbridge wines.

Karen Birmingham – Formally introduced to wine as a research assistant at Washington State University, where she concentrated on wine fermentation for her MS in Food Science after she completed her BS in Microbiology. Originally from Sacramento, she moved back to California and took a job at Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi before joining the LangeTwins team in 2008. Karen takes a technical approach to winemaking, creating wines with balanced acidity and varietal complexity. She believes that less interference crafts beautiful wines.

ABOUT: Located in the center of the Lodi AVA, the Jahant AVA is geographically the smallest of Lodi’s seven AVAs – a total size of 28,000 acres, with roughly 9,000 acres planted to vineyard. It sits on highly dissected river terraces and old floodplain deposits. The classic Mediterranean climate has Delta fog influence, and receives cold air drainage and entrapment within our vineyards.

VINIFICATION: With nine months of sur lie aging in Neutral Oak, our 2021 Vintage Fume Blanc has achieved a perfect harmony of crisp Citrus, Aromatic Floral, and light oak characteristics.

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of Iris, Ripe Melon, Lemon, Grapefruit Zest and Coconut come through and meld together as the wine sits in the glass. Upon first sip, you are hit with a wave of fresh acidity that evokes Lemon Pop Rocks. This mouthfeel almost immediately softens as the lees influence morphs these flavors into a Lemon Buttercream essence, continuing through to leave a delicate, long & refreshing finish.

FOOD PAIRING: Seared Scallops, Lobster w/ Butter, Clams & Mussels w/ Butter, Grilled Salmon, Fresh Pasta w/ Pesto, Burratta, Salads, Vegetarian Dishes, Goat Cheese.
