HISTORY: Joostenberg is a 5th generation family business situated in the Muldersvlei district of Stellenbosch. They have always practiced traditional mixed farming but have expanded over the years. Ventures now include a deli, pork specialist butchery, bistro, events venue and Stellies Taproom, organic vineyard farming and boutique wine production, seasonal cut flowers, herbs and vegetables. They believe in producing and sourcing great quality, authentic products and supplying them directly to the public, right here on their farm. [Here, w]inemaking is not about systems and recipes. Not if you want to make distinctive wines. Everything done at Joostenberg's winery (and vineyards) is aimed at ensuring that their wines are both delicious and true to their origin.

ABOUT: The Little J wines are specifically made to match the hearty, bistro-style food that we serve at the Joostenberg Bistro. This wine is fresh, fruity and unpretentious. The perfect wine for warm, summer days. The grapes were sourced from the Agter-Paarl area (part of the Paarl appellation), which is well known for its old, un-irrigated, Chenin Blanc vineyards. Small portions of Viognier & Roussanne, from younger vines, added a touch of peachy and floral aromatics to the final blend.

VINIFICATION: The grapes were all hand-picked, de-stemmed, lightly crushed and pressed before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. Only the “free run” juice was used and fermentation lasted for about 20 days. After 3 months of maturation on the lees the components were blended and the resulting wine was bottled.

TASTING NOTES: Medium-bodied white blend primarily composed of Chenin Blanc. This wine shows typical Chenin Blanc aromas and flavors of Pineapple, Lychee, and Guava, with the addition of Viognier and Roussane adding complexity. Each component contributes its distinctive characteristics to the blend, bringing out additional hints of Pear, Melon, and Granadilla (Passionfruit). Crisp & delicious w/ nice texture on the palate, and a medium, clean finish.

FOOD PAIRING: This wine is perfect on its own as an aperitif, but it will also pair extremely well with a wide range of foods, especially Fish, Shellfish (especially Oysters), Sushi, Asian Curries, Sweet and Sour dishes, Spicy Foods and Summer Salads.
