Full bodied Red Wine. Deep Purple color, aromas of Earthy Barnyard, Ripe Red & Plummy Fruits, & Spices. The palate has silky tannins, dusty Minerality, hints of Herbaceousness, Cassis & Cedar.
HISTORY: Located a half hour northwest of Athens on the foothills of Mount Helikon, Muses Estate is the first winery to have revived this variety thanks to the efforts of Athanasios Zacharias 91 years ago. This very rare red grape is grown exclusively in the area of Askri, at the foot of Mt. Helicon, in Central Greece.
ABOUT: The soil is fertile, with mixed composition ranging from Sandy Loam to Clay Loam, thus offering the possibility of producing wines of exquisite quality and rich aromas. The microclimate of the region is characterized by cold winters and warm summers, while a small river called Permisos contribute to the existence of a mild continental climate.
VINIFICATION: Vineyards are located at an altitude between 450 and 550m and have a slope between 3 and 7%. All vines are cultivated according to the principles of integrated agriculture, which ensures protection for the environment, the consumer and the people working in the fields. After fermentation, the wine sees 12 months in 2 & 3 year old, used 225L Oak Barrels, after which the wine is aged for 6 months in bottle before release.
TASTING NOTES: Full bodied Red Wine. Deep Purple color, showing a beautiful nose full of Earthy Barnyard, Ripe Red & Plummy Fruit & Spices. The palate is full & mild, w/ silky tannins and dusty Minerality underscored by a hint of Herbaceousness. The palate is filled with Cassis, Cedar and Earthy notes, with bright acid adding balance to the structured, dusty tannins.
FOOD PAIRING: Ideally suited to Beef Tartar, Game, Stews, Lamb, Pastas in Red sauce and Hard Yellow Cheeses.
