100% Grignolino from Asti, Piedmont, Italy.

HISTORY: Grignolino is a Pidmontese red native grape variety, which s believed to have originated from the Monferrato hills. Historically called Barbesino, it was once highly prized by Piedmontese nobility and valued with similar prices as Barolo. The name derives from “grignole”, a word in the Piedmontese dialect, which means “pips”, alluding to the greater number of pips the berry contains. Val Tiglione, in province of Asti, has proved to be an ideal habitat to grow Grignolino vines. Grignolino d’Asti was awarded DOC back in 1973.

VINIFICATION: Fermented in Stainless steel tanks for 14 days at 22°C, during which time it was macerated on its skins for 4 days, and pumped-over 3-4 times per day. The resulting wine was then aged in 50 Hl Stainless Steel tanks for 5 months, after which it underwent 2 months of bottle aging before being shipped to market.

TASTING NOTES: Med. Bodied dry Red Wine. The color of this wine is Pale Red, with light Orange reflections. On the nose it has alluring aromas of White Pepper and Cloves, delicate notes of Rose and Geranium, and a distinctive scent of Raspberry and Strawberry. The palate is dry, and well-balanced with lovely fruit, and a remarkable tannic structure. Red Fruits & Spices dominate the palate, leading to a med. length finish.

FOOD PAIRING: Lovely by itself (especially with a light chill on it!), or enjoyed with hearty fare like Beef, Lamb, Game, and/or Pasta with Red Sauces. Ideal with Cold Cuts, Young Cheeses, Baked Blue Fish, “Fritto Misto Piemontese” & Sweetbread Risotto.
