ABOUT: te Pā winery is located on the Wairau Bar in Marlborough, which is New Zealand's earliest know settlement. Before the MacDonald family started te Pā in 2003 their family history has been deeply rooted in the Wairau Bar for over 800 years. The location has proved to be the ideal place to grow Sauvignon Blanc, nestled between the river to the south, and Cloudy Bay on the eastern boundary, these two bodies of water mediate the temperature and encourage air flow throughout the vineyards. The effect is more even ripening, a lower diurnal shift, and decreased disease in the vineyards. The variety of soil types range from loam to alluvial to sand/silt promote a healthy drainage for the vines.
VINEYARD NOTES: Loess, clay and stony loam. 120 M above Sea Level. Average vine age: 15 years.
VINIFICATION: The fruit used to make this wine was handpicked, and whole bunch pressed. A strain of Alsatian yeast culture is utilized to initiate the primary fermentation. 45% of the juice was fermented in seasoned barrels, and then left on gross lees for 4 months; 55% was fermented in Stainless Steel to retain freshness, and left on light lees for 4 months. 13% alc, 3.5 g/l RS. Vegan friendly.
TASTING NOTES: Bright, pale straw-yellow, even color. Medium bodied, dry white wine. Elegant presentation on the nose, with nuances of Flint and Spices entwined with Pears, Peaches & Nectarine along with a creamy note, & subtle hints of Jasmine flowers. The palate exudes purity and poise, with rich flavors of White Peach and creamy Nougat coming through. Drink now, or over the next 3-4 years.
